Autoextend can be very helpful to busy DBAs by allowing Oracle to automatically increase file sizes to a pre-determined limit when necessary, which can make the workday a bit easier by minimizing the effort expended to monitor disk space. In a heavily used system where inserts and updates eclipse the deletes, autoextend gives the DBA some “breathing room” so he/she can attend to more pressing issues.
